National Apprenticeship Week Construction Tasters

To help promote National Apprenticeship week Bishop Auckland College are putting on a series of Construction  Tasters' at the College's new multi-million pound Skills & Employment Centre in Spennymoor.  Today local Connexions Advisers, Information & Guidance and Marketing College staff had a go at building a brick wall to get an insight into what School Leavers need to learn when they begin their Apprenticeship in Construction.

 

Barbara Thomas (pictured front left) from Connexions Newton Aycliffe said: "I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it s certainly more difficult than it looks, this is the first time I have built a wall and have a greater understanding of just what is involved"

Also pictured Chris Lee Bricklaying tutor demonstrated what to do to the novice brick layers and scored everyone's work.

The event was overseen by Simon Bowker the Learner Services Manager from the National Apprenticeship Service who were supporting the event.

Other activities include a 'Beat the Teachers' word processing competition at the Skills & Employment Centre and an Information Advice & Guidance drop in session 3.15 – 4.15pm at Bishop Auckland College, Woodhouse Lane followed by an Apprenticeship Recruitment Evening TEL 01388 443000 for further details.
