Course overview

The NCFE Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity provides an opportunity for learners who would like to gain employment in the sport sector, including the fitness, leisure, education and coaching industries.

On this course you'll develop the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for employment in various sporting disciplines such as; coaching, teaching, instructing and sports development. You'll also cover practical coaching and units in the field of exercise, health and lifestyle, fitness training and programming, analysis and practical team sports.

Course requirements

Minimum 4 GCSE’s at grades 9 - 4 (A* - C) or equivalent, including a C or above in Maths and English, or a Level 2 qualification in a relevant subject area.

What will I do?

Whilst studying the Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity Level 3, you are given the opportunity to learn how to coach a wide range of sports and safely prepare a fitness session within the College fitness suite.

You also get the chance to organise events for local primary schools to come and visit the college and take part in various sports.

You will also have the opportunity to gain coaching qualifications whilst on this course. This full time course is taught over three days a week for one year.

What will it give me?

The Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity Level 3 is equivalent to two A Levels. You will experience a variety of different sport related vocations via visits, guest speakers and a work placement as well as improving and developing your enterprise skills to assist with potential future self employment within the sport and leisure industry.

Materials needed

You will need to provide appropriate sportswear such as sports top, shorts, trousers and trainers. You will also have the opportunity to purchase a college-branded sports kit. Concessions may apply for students based on personal circumstances. You will also be required to wear the appropriate kit if you want to participate in one of our sports academies (football academy, rugby academy, table tennis academy, street dance academy, fitness academy).

What can I do when I finish?

If you gain suitable grades you may progress to higher education at college on our HND (higher national diploma) in Sports Coaching and Development. You may also progress onto higher education on degree courses at university such as sport studies, physical education, leisure / sport management or sports development. You may also choose to gain employment within the sport and leisure industry.
